Living Andy Warhol

2011-2015

Ball-point pen and ink on kraft paper. Multiple series.
Size range around 20 cm square each.

Living Andy Warhol came about when conducting a research paper on Warhol’s Soup Can paintings, and suspicious of the linguistic approach, took on imitation as an alternative way to study the work of art, the process of creation, the artist etc.

Ignorant of art history and training, the project’s original intention was to attempt at what writing could not, using everyday stationery, in particular ballpoint pens, for the transcription of visual images, as opposed to textual interpretation.

The experiment with creating repetitive handwork led to conceptions about the speakable vs the unspeakable, image-aura vs human-aura, machine vs human, professional vs amateur, artist vs audience, all of which eventually point to the practice of contemporary art.
